Data Management & GIS

Data Management & GIS
SRK Consulting has a team of professional and technical staff who provide innovative computer-based data integration, management and presentation for a wide range of earth science disciplines. Extensive quantities of data may thereby be made readily accessible and meaningful, providing a basis for clients to make/ review decisions in real time.
Combining spatial technology-oriented skills with available computer technologies, we process and integrate large and varied spatial data sets of environmental, mining, hydrological and geotechnical information. Outputs can be analyzed and compared, allowing for multi-disciplinary decision support and implementation of unique and cost effective solutions.
We have applied these techniques to a variety of earth science projects including the management of tailings dam complexes; site characterization; geological, hydrological and geotechnical exploration, and environmental mapping, assessment, monitoring and remediation.

GIS
A Geographical Information System (GIS) can be defined as a system of hardware, software and procedures, designed to support the collection, management, handling, analysis, modeling, and visualization of spatially referenced data to solve complex planning and management issues. In mining, GIS provides easy visualization of georeferenced information on any spatial point within the deposit or the district, thus becoming a very useful tool in the presentation and study as well as interpretation and modeling of the deposit, while also being applicable in exploration.
SRK offers a complete spectrum of GIS services, providing technical support through a system with a wide range of applications in different aspects of mining and other projects:
-
Exploitation
We can integrate all the information provided by mine geologists and easily compare all the variables - lithology, veinlet density and types, geochemistry, alteration, and mineralization of the deposit's plants and sections on a three-dimensional basis, pit topography, underground workings, and scientific data, among others. The GIS can also be applied to block models and extraction sequences.
-
Exploration
Topography, district geochemistry sampling, preliminary prospect geological mapping, radiometric dating, mining claims, aerial photographs, satellite imagery, borehole surveys, roads.
-
Geotechnics
Structural geology, geotechnical road studies, tunnels, slope stability, benches, waste dumps, risk areas; integration of this information and that of other disciplines in order to generate risk maps.
-
Hydrogeology
Permanently updated well surveys, associated with all the data on the well, photographs and water table data base tables, pumping tests, topography, depth to groundwater table, isohyets.
-
Environment
Baseline impact studies, water and air quality data bases, soil contamination, restriction areas (risk areas, archaeological sites, protected zones); influence area generation based on the integration of positive and negative variables.
-
Infrastructure
High tension lines, highways, roads, gas pipes, mine pipes, antennas, airports, health care centers.
